We have recently updated our primary method of authentication to provide stable and seamless off-campus access to all our resources. However some saved bookmarks or links may still be using the old authentication method.
You may see a "Host Needed" or "Library resource : authentication update needed" page if you are using a bookmark or link which still uses the old authentication method. Links which include "proxy.library.lincoln.ac.uk" will not redirect to the resource and will need updating.
Locating an updated link
Use the library website, advanced search or publication finder to locate the resource. Links from these sites will use the updated access method and allow you to click through to access the content.
Alternatively if you only have the link but not the citation details you may still be able to find the resource using the saved link. The old authentication method uses URLs with the format https://proxy.library.lincoln.ac.uk/login?url=https://lincoln.ac.uk - the part of the URL after the = is the address of the resource. Copy this to your browser and then look for an institutional login option to access.
Once you have located and accessed the resource please remove or update the old bookmark or saved link.
Updating a Reading List link
If you are a student and have accessed the resource via a reading list, please let us know which module you are studying and how you accessed the link.
If you are a member of teaching staff with responsibility for the reading list, please update your reading list bookmark:
- Delete the existing bookmark
- Login to Talis Aspire Reading Lists
- Navigate to My Bookmarks
- Locate the resource and tick the checkbox next to it.
- Under the Actions menu select Remove.
- Locate the updated link via the library website or advanced search and bookmark the resource again using the updated access link.
Reading List links will be checked and updated regularly.
Updating a link on Blackboard
If you are a student and have accessed the resource via a reading list, please let us and your module coordinator know the details of what you are trying to access, which module you are studying and how you accessed the link.
If you are a member of staff with responsibility for the module in Blackboard, please remove the incorrect link and use Talis Aspire Reading Lists to provide links to any resources. For assistance with reading lists please contact us.
